What do you think about Soft Paws/Claws for cats?

I am going to be trying these out. I would like input from people who have actually used them. I read a number of horror stories about them not shedding and growing into the paw pads and cats biting and shredding their nails to the quick to get them off. Have you had good experiences? Have you had bad experiences? Any information would be great. The brochure makes it sound like the caps not shedding normally is an uncommon occurrence. You wouldn't think so by reading the reviews.
