If someone uses your car and gets charged grand theft auto, could you clear that charge?

A friend borrowed my car, got pulled over and arrested, and my car got towed. If they charge him with grand theft auto, could I clear all charges? If I do, do I get in trouble for the illegal substances he had in the car and what he got arrested for?
